Standing Stones and Derrynane Beach: A cinematic couples session in County Kerry, Ireland

The Wild Atlantic Way is one of my favourite areas of Ireland. Each time I’m here I am captivated by the beauty and the landscape of this place. It feels both magical and dramatic a the same time. This is one of my favourite areas to photograph couples in Ireland.

Locations: Derrynane Beach and the Standing Stones

I’m lucky enough to have family that lives ten minutes away from Derrynane Beach. K & N were happy for me to choose the location for their session, so it was an easy to choose to choose Derrynane Beach as I am quite familiar with the area. I had come across the standing stones near my relatives’ home before and was immediately reminded of the Outlander novels and show; I knew it would make for some beautiful photos, so this is where we began K & N’s engagement session.

The field the stones are in give a beautiful view of nearby Caherdaniel and the Atlantic in the distance. The evening was beautiful and warm, but not hot. The sheep kept an eye on us as we walked through the field and visited the stones. What a stunning and magical place!

Beautiful Derrynane Beach

Next we took a short drive down to Derrynane Beach, and experienced one of the best sunsets I’ve seen in Ireland. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful evening, and being at the wide open beach allowed us to experience it fully. The long grass on the dunes at the beach begged to be frolicked in, and K & N didn’t hesitate to be playful and have fun during their session. The colours the sky produced were jaw dropping, and we often stood in awe at the changing sky.

This is one of my favourite sessions to date, and I am just so happy with how the photos turned out. I can’t wait to go back here again and shoot more sessions in future!
